[Interview] Jenn Chong: Developing winning products

As a well-known player in the plastics industry, Jenn Chong has been advancing its technology as it develops products that have been market winners. Despite the growing competition in this segment, the company has been known for its flexibility and innovative spirit that for more than 30 years, it has seen its portfolio growing and market reach rapidly expanding. General Manager Tony Wang shares with International Plastics News for Asia (IRNA) the core values and operations that have made Jenn Chong a well-recognised manufacturer of highly efficient machines.



IRNA: How do Jenn Chong respond to the extrusion requirements of the market today?
Mr. Wang: As a leading extrusion machine manufacturer in Taiwan, Jenn Chong has also been recognised as an innovative engineering company offering solutions to meet each customer’s needs. Simply put, “continuous improvement” has always been the core competence of the company.
Jenn Chong started with the production of blown film extruder in the early 80’s, and now our product portfolio has expanded tremendously in response to market demand. We have our bestsellers, and in the past two years, we saw most of our orders coming from these two categories: monofilament extrusion line and strapping band extrusion line.
Our monofilament extrusion line is well known for its high precision and superior performance, as our more than 30 years of experience led to continuous improvement in the monofilament extrusion technology resulting in outstanding quality of our monofilament extrusion line and our ability to offer technical solution in the field of PP, HDPE, PA and PET monofilament production. Our strapping band extrusion line targets higher end customers in the packaging sector. Built with concept of precision and high productivity guarantees premium strap quality, maximum output, low energy consumption, and products to meet international standard for packaging, as well other industrial and commercial usage.
The market has been very dynamic that Jenn Chong has to work hard to meet specialised requirements. We clearly understand our edge lies in innovation and engineering capability, and we utilise our advantages to develop extrusion line for customers, optimising our ability to respond to the ever-changing market needs, ultimately helping us to be more competitive.



IRNA: Jenn Chong has been recognised for i t s products, specifically the JC-MN monofilament extrusion line. What are the special features of this series?
Mr. Wang: Quality, reliability, precision, efficiency, and productivity are the essential characteristic of the JC-MN series monofilament extrusion line. The market for technical monofilament not only demands high productivity, but also focuses on filament precision. We have gained tremendous experience by working closely with our customers in developing new monofilament extrusion technology.
Feedback from customers enable us to provide proven technology that minimises technical risk and maximise overall performance of the machine.



IRNA: How did Jenn Chong develop its award-winning products?
Mr. Wang: During the last plastics exhibition in Taipei, our multilayer coextrusion blown film extruder in the 3CX series was awarded first prize for excellence in the extrusion categories. I can say that foremost in developing this award winning line, we focus on incorporating highvalue features, such as fully automation system, that would result in better endproduct quality, perform improved uptime, and minimise wastage along with lower operating and maintenance cost, as well as being applicable to a wide range of end-product production. Secondly, as an engineering company we have put greater emphasis on its aesthetic design and its modularity capability, which makes the line stand out from the others.

IRNA: What are the most important markets for your products?
Mr. Wang: Overall, we evaluate each market as important. In the past, EU market has accounted over 30% of our production, but the past economic crisis has impacted our sales to this market. However, we anticipate a gradual recovery in the coming year. On the other hand, the “post-Soviet states” such as Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia itself has shown significant sales increase, which has balance out the figures in the region. Our operations in the ASEAN have steadily increased, which we attribute to investment by foreign corporations and joint-venture into the ASEAN. Further, our cooperation with our India partner has also been successful, especially in the monofilament extrusion line series. The launch of our new strapping band line and its exposure during the K 2010 and K 2013 has been positive approach contributing to our two-digit annual growth.
